Carb Nite® / Re: Three questions...
« on: May 07, 2013, 08:02:55 PM »
Thanks for the fast response. Yes, I did mean HIIT. I do two sessions a week. Also, the salad dressing is the only EVOO I use and it isn't even every day. Also, its a modest amount with the MCT oil cutting it in half (love that MCT oil). I have switched all my cooking oil needs to butter and coconut oil. Also, what do you mean by the AM shake? Are you talking about the morning accelerator shake w/ coffee or the CBL PWO shake w/ the minus carbs?

Carb Nite® / Three questions...

First, Since olive oil is now (or always was) bad, what type of oil could I use to make salad dressing? I usually use half olive oil and half MCT oil in the Good Seasons Italian dressing.

Second, I'm a contractor and very busy through the day and sometimes getting home late at night. Many nights cooking and preparing meats and meals is out. I was using one protein shake during the day w/ fats for convenience. I have tried to limit that to only on days that I need too, but since Whey raises your insulin, would a shake of Casein and PF Monster V (beef) be OK to get some extra protein without the problems of Whey?

Lastly, I don't eat carbs after cardio, but what is the appropriate post cardio protocol for CN? I have been wondering this question. Right now I'm using the CBL post workout shake minus carbs and hydros. Is this anywhere close?

Thanks.

I just went through one bottle of this. It's tough to get an accurate gauge when PF only has products like this in stock sporatically. I would have liked to track my progress over 3-4 months and gauge that against similar time periods last year. I've been waiting a over a week for when they say it will come back in. So, I hate making claims after only a month. That being said, I notice a much better digestive feel when used with high protein shakes and meals. Sometimes I get some groaning and grumbling from high protein gram count shakes and meals. Also, I feel that I am recovering better. Its kind of a loose statement, but I just don't feel as worn out or sore the next two days. I have gotten stronger in the last month with a best lift in Bench and Squat, but I'm not willing to say that this supplement was the cause...just saying it came during the same month.

The one thing I was a little concerned about was PF's claim that it "hyrdolyzes" protein in your system and completely digests everything in 1 1/2 hours...or something like that. With CBL, I've been only using about three caps a day but with my meals and post workout later in the day. I haven't used it earlier. Maybe its ok, but being new, I have no info either way.

Any thoughts on using this for healthier backloading? I thought I remember seeing that sweet potatoes are acceptable.

Carb Back-Loading™ / Re: Carb Back Loading While Playing Lacrosse
« on: February 22, 2012, 07:03:04 PM »
Laxer,

That has been my experience also. We play a 5 game set which is usually pretty intense. It lasts about an hour and a half to an hour and 45 minutes. About halfway through game 4 (usually the one hour mark) rapid fatigue sets in. I'm good until then. Not sure how to offset that. My weight workouts are 45-60 minutes and I feel great for that.

My strength is better than it has ever been. I am shooting more for a density bulking right now too. Originally wanted the strength accumulation, but figured that can be closer to summer. Or maybe use CN for that. Reducing carbs further didn't seem appropriate till after my league is over. If anyone has any info to the contrary, please share.

Your diet seems pretty similar to mine, but without the morning workout/practice. Let me know if something clicks for you with the one hour practice fatigue.

Laxer,

Very interested to hear how you make out with this. If you don't mind too much, keep me/us updated as to how things are going with lacrosse and workouts. Basically, how you are feeling during workouts and games etc. I play winter volleyball in evenings and I was curious about the same thing. You said you feel good during practice? What are you doing foodwise in the hour or two leading up to your practice? I am most interested in your evening practice since that is comparable for me but please share anything. What are you eating through the day on practice/lift days?

Carb Back-Loading™ / Re: Numerous off days between Lifts
« on: February 10, 2012, 06:06:15 PM »
Thanks Naomi and Newf. I think that is where I need to adjust things on my off days, maybe need to dial back some. I haven't necessarily "lost" weight. Not that I really need to, I just want to make sure I'm doing things as prescribed. Everything else is going well. Good workouts and strength increase. I appreciate the personal experience from you guys. It kind of makes things from the book click for me when I hear how others manage certain situations.

I train MWF, so on sunday night I usually have a bowl of cereal before bed to give me just enough to feel yoked in the next days lift.  I originally did a full blown CBL on sunday night and found that it stagnated fat loss, but with the small CBL (bowl of cereal) I did not notice any negative sides.  If I start feeling really beat up I just eat everything I can Sunday nights and it seems like I wake up leaner, but this is only when I am feeling really beat up and depleted.  Just an FYI this works pretty well for me but I am naturally fairly lean (prob bout 12-14% BF) and I am at about %10 right now without really dialing in all the extras (supplements).

Interesting. That was kind of what I was playing around with. I think maybe I go a little overboard when I don't need to on certain days. Thanks for sharing.

Protein / Re: Why can't you people digest cheap whey protein?
« on: February 07, 2012, 08:35:24 PM »
Yeah. I hear you. I usually stay about 1.0 per lb BW or a little less. I have never adjusted the amount more per day, I just adjusted the brand I was using. PF has been giving me consistent strength/weight improvement without the unfortunate side effects so I just stay with them.

Actually years ago I used to use Muscle Milk cause it was one of the few that didn't seem to bother me too much. Then they changed the formula and added 5g of fiber and that was the end of that. Of course, I shoot for a healthy amount of fiber in my diet, but for me it has to come from veggies, fruit, and a distant third being whole grain since it doesn't work much for CBL. Also, a long time ago I used MHP probolic protein for a period of time and that didn't bother me too much either, but I lost some weight and strength which I can only assume was from the large percentage of soy in it. Don't know that for sure though.

Do you backload on your day before you would work out or do you go 30g carbs on that day too?

Protein / Re: Why can't you people digest cheap whey protein?

I agree with IJ. Honestly, man, I had myself convinced that bloating and 20 minute bathroom trips were normal if you were taking protein supplements. For me, it wasn't just cheap protein but added fiber like Inulin, Gum blends, other fillers and certain artificial sweeteners etc etc. I ate a breakstone cottage cheese from my friend's house this weekend and it was the digestive support style with added fiber etc and I was all bloated the next morning. For me, natural whole food fiber OK, added fiber supplements not OK.

If you aren't like this then God bless you man. It isn't fun. I use pure products like PF proteins or isopure and I'm OK. It just can't have anything in it but protein. So, for me it isn't the lactose (I'm fine with milk and dairy) it is all the extra stuff that I can't pronounce.

Naomi or anyone else,

Naomi mentioned that she only lifts twice a week in another thread and I decided to move my question out of that one since it was probably disrespectful to redirect the other gentleman's thread like that.

My question to Naomi or anyone else is does anyone have any experience with 2 workouts a week and what you are doing on your multiple days between as far as your backloading diet? I know there was mention of this in the book but I wasn't sure. Are you guys/gals still backloading on all your off days or going no-carb on certain ones? Thanks.

I used to stay away from the old version of six star cause it was sweetened with aspartame, but they changed to sucralose in the new "version" or packaging. That's nice to see.

Protein / Re: Casein and Whey
« on: January 28, 2012, 10:29:41 PM »
I wondered about this when I read CBL. I used a PF blend that I made that was similar to Blend D, but since reading the CBL book I have removed the hydro proteins from my blend. That is what I like so much about the custom route...easy to add and subract.

I just assumed that since Keifer is much smarter than me and a big research guy that he is adapting and amending his info. Since the Blend D was created in a 2010?? article, I just committed 100% to the latest CBL book info. So no hydros for me during the first half of the day. Right now I'm using a Native Whey Isolate/Casein blend earlier and I keep straight WPI on hand too. I'm hoping this is close to what he wants in the book and look forward to more information on the subject.
