No today is a training day, in fact Ill be doing one in the morning, than one at night (before i would start my CN) My concern is that two of the days since my last CN have been non-training days. But still ULC of course. So im wondering if i should hold off so there is more training days in between my Carb Nites.

That shouldn't matter, I would still have it.

i tried search but didn't find exactly what i'm looking for as an answer.  i was wondering what the thoughts on the forum were for whether to take bcaa's before lifting while in a fasted state?  is it useless?  benficial? detrimental?   i know leucine is preferred but i have some bcaa's i liked to use up first before purchasing leucine unless it's detrimental in which case i will just order it.    thanks

Wait until after.

Supplements / Re: Splenda with Leucine?
« on: Today at 07:33:12 AM »
Not sure if this has been discussed before, but the small tabs of Splenda (sold as 'Sweet Minis' in the UK) contain Leucine. WHY? The ingredients are listed as: 'Lactose (from Milk), Sweetener (Sucralose: 11%), Leucine'... I was also wondering why they need lactose in as well?! I'm guessing given the tiny size of the tabs the quantities here must be neglible and not enough to cause a insulin response, but it seems odd to me to have these ingredients in there in the first place! :o

I have seen lactose added to other things too.  I couldn't tell you.

I played around a lot with different tweaks of CN to lean out below 10% BF.  I got far better results from doing a carb nite every 5 days then eventually every 4 days, than trying to make two carb nites a week work.  I got much better results backloading my carb nites than doing them on an off day. If you try to to two carb nites a week, I feel like they have to be backloaded.

You pretty much did what you were supposed to, have a Carb Nite every 4 days and having them after a workout is recommended.

Wondering if i could get your advise "ibobland8". Switching from every 7 days to 5, obviously my CN will be a little lighter. But since my last CN, of the 5 days, 2 of them were weekend days where I did very little activity. No gym time at all. Should I go a couple more days since ill be training through the week?

You mean you want to delay your CN so you have it on a training day?

Carb Nite® / Re: Natural soda on Carb nite?
« on: June 18, 2013, 07:31:17 AM »
Just to clarify, HFCS is worse than cane sugar. There are those who cannot even break it down in their body causing not nice reactions. I myself am one of them. Within minutes I can tell that sonething has HFCS. HFCS is corn not sugar, therefore your body does not process it the same way. There is a lot of info about it. I, from personal experience, know they're not the same.
And a note about Whole Foods, they allow genetically engineered  foods now in their stores and are not whole anymore. Read the labels.
Trader Joe's is still whole, last I checked.

Where are you getting this info from?  Anyways HFCS is certainly sugar.  Glucose and fructose are both sugars.

Carb Nite® / Re: over-the-carb limit question...

Most likely you are fine.  The 30 g limit is a very conservative limit designed so that EVERYONE will be ketogenic.

Steve all we are saying is that the standard advice is don't backload exclusively with junk, unless you are a really trying to put on weight or if you are a really muscular guy.  If you are getting good results with junk food, I would also suggest you keep doing it.  When I ran DB I ate almost a whole pizza every off night and got excellent results.

The big picture is that high glycemic carbs are what we are after.  Personally I think of sweets and other junk as excellent anabolic supplements.  I highly credit including them in my diet got me from a kind of muscular 160 to a jacked 187 (I am only 5'6", so that's big for my height).

There are some folks that get really good results from only backloading with junk.  Some people get the best results with only rice, bread, and potatoes.  Most people get the best results from using both.

As far as the junk food skepticism.  I think everyone is skeptical about CBL because the recommended foods are the opposite of what is traditionally recommended.  And Kiefer says that not only can junk food be eaten often, it can be beneficial.

However, we must all keep in mind that even white rice, white potatoes, and white bread, while considered clean by CBL, they are still considered junk by most mainstream diets.  I much rather eat a potato than the disgusting oatmeal I forced myself to eat for years.

Kiefer also mentioned when density bulking you can eat pizza, ice cream etc and the trashier the better. The original poster was about putting on size and losing fat. I've done both density bulking every day. I just keep the off days clean eg. rice, potatoes etc. Everyone is different I guess. I'm not trying to be Kiefer just giving an example of what has worked for me so far. From what I can tell this isn't a one size fits all plan. You have to experiment a bit.

I'm all for experimenting, but I have seen time and time again that when smaller guys like the original poster eat a lot of junk they put on fat.  Kiefer has said several times in podcasts that this is true.  You have to realize a lot of the junk food recommendations in CBL is sort of marketing.  All Kiefer really says about the trashy carbs is that they can be functional, not that they should be used exclusively.  If you read CBL carefully, you will see that Kiefer says on page 220 in the FAQ section that you should ideally not backload exclusively with foods high in sucrose or HFCS.  Nearly all the carbs in Ice Cream come from HFCS or sucrose.

Also the original poster does not need to do Density Bulking to gain muscle, SA will do that fine because he has a lot of room to grow and does not need a massive amount of food for muscle growth.  Density Bulking would likely cause fat gain, especially in the manner you described.  I have run Density Bulk successfully for a combined 11 months so I am rather well versed in the protocol.

Do the prep phase to find out what your baseline carb intake should be. Use the chart and increase your carbs according to each lb of body weight you want to increase by. Kiefer says that it's the junk carbs that you should be looking to eat for best results(read the book again) but only post training. Leave the starchy carbs for on rest days and decrease the amount to 1gram per lb of bodyweight as a starting point.(this works for me) My back load this evening after training will look like this:   75g dextrose, 2 ripe bananas(post workout)
1 large Papa Johns Pizza( 1hour after workout)
1 500ml Ben and Jerry's chocolate fudge brownie Ice cream +
                                          50 g dextrose(three hours after workout)
This is about 600g carbs which is just over my baseline carbs. I have not had any fat gains over the last 6 weeks. I've actually got leaner, and more muscular. Don't worry about junk carbs as long as it is post training, but don't go to far over your baseline carb amounts. Gradual increases in carbs from that point is the way to do it. Good luck!

What Kiefer means by junk carbs is high glycemic carbs, which are traditionally viewed as junk by mainstream dieting.  Also it sounds like you are Density Bulking, that is not appropriate for the original poster as he is trying to lose more fat.

Carb Back-Loading™ / Re: GABA
« on: June 15, 2013, 10:13:39 AM »
I've taken GABA for a couple of years. Helps get you to sleep and apparently is good for increasing growth hormone levels if taken prior to a workout. I have stopped taking it since I've been carb back loading as you should only take it on an empty stomach, and my last meal is very late at night now. Not going to wait until 2AM to take it lol.

Why should you only take it on an empty stomach?  It seems to work fine with me regardless.

11
Ok. I am going to do the prep phase I just haven't started it.

Ok make sure you get your initial weight and your weight loss at the end of it.  Use that number to get a much more accurate number of your max carb stores.

12
Sounds good. How many carbs can I consume in a backload on SA? The BW to Carbs chart (I know not quite as accurate as teh prep phase, but still probably pretty close) says I need 550-600 grams of carbs! Is that right?
If so, what exactly is wrong with eating a lot of ice cream in a backload.
Wait, did you do the prep phase?  If you didn't I'd highly recommend you do it.  As far as the carb you number you mentioned, that is the maximum amount of glycogen you can hold.  Most likely you will want around around half that amount in your backload.  However, if you do the prep phase keep track of how much weight you lose and you will get a more accurate number.

Hmmm cravings for alcohol?  That's a new one, never heard that before.  Do any of you guys cycle GABA?  I've heard from places that it should be cycled, I personally do not.

Yea stick to mostly starch and add a small dessert like ice cream.
