BioJacked Podcast / Re: Kiefer back on Jim Laird's show!

Thanks, it was a cool podcast.  ;D

Just a tip for Jim Laird: stop saying "sure" and "right" after every single statement. It got annoying after the 100th time.

I wish DH would get this stuff handled; podcasts aren't rocket science.  :-\

Carb Back-Loading™ / Re: Prep phase (might be an obvious question)
« on: July 25, 2012, 03:07:40 PM »
If you're feeling like crap don't bother working out. You'll tax your central nervous system (cns) and ultimately put more stress onto your body which would release a cascade of catabolic hormones starting with cortisol.  Adapting to a fat metabolism from a glucose metabolism is already enough stress on your body.

If you feel OK working out, keep your lefts to 50-60% of what you normally do. You want to do enough to deplete your remaining glycogen stores but not enough to burnout your cns.

I wouldn't workout at all during the prep phase. Let your body adjust to burning fat, then hit the weights.

  • Get a Yeti mic or any other cheaper USB mic
  • A macbook/laptop
  • 'Audacity' (free software to record and edit your audio)

Done.

As a suggestion, I think DH should stick to simply doing podcasts instead of live radio recordings. The small benefit of having people call in live is outweighed by the hassle and cost of hosting it. Those live questions can be posted in a thread here on DH as usual. One or two Yeti mics with an optional $10 dollar stand and a macbook/laptop is all you need for a podcast to support 1-6 people with superb audio quality.

This way you have total control over the recording because it stays with you. And the recording can easily be uploaded to itunes and elsewhere.  :)

Given that kiefer is busy I'd think you'd be helping him out by uploading your recording here until he finds the time to do so on the dh.fm site. Whoever is in contact with him could run it by him.

You've mentioned you've had a chat with Tim Ferriss in one of your local cafes.

What is your opinion of his Slow Carb diet? How are people going from >20% BF% to around 11% on a diet that includes carbohydrates in the form of legumes, while gorging once a week on high-GI carbs?

And...

What is your opinion on his mass gaining diet and program (which he used to gain 34lbs of muscle in 28 days)?

Kiefer: for someone over 20% BF%, what do you think of consuming 50g of protein within 30 mins of waking as a protocol to restore leptin-sensitivity and consequently accelerate fatloss?

The method is prescribed by Dr. Jack Kruse, and the reasoning for it is:

Quote
Why do you need to eat within 30 minutes of waking? When you’re leptin-resistant, your diurnal clocks in the brain, the liver, and muscles are all disordered. This is how we will reset those organs to once again act in unison, like an orchestra. If you break this rule, you can still find success, but it will make your reset take longer.
