Carb Back-Loading™ / Re: Adding Fat For The Sake Of it
« on: September 27, 2012, 07:27:08 AM »
Personally I do a little bit better from a digestive standpoint when the ratio is slightly in favor of protein.  I notice no difference as far as fat loss goes.

Citation...the page number in the book. Off hand, I do not remember the part of the book you were referring to.

I have it and have read it a few times.

In the book kiefer has guidelines based on how you look if you need more or fewer carbs.

Could you please point me to the cite?

Sorry i meant there is a thread for strategy to get to less than 10% bf.

There are a few of them. Which one are you referring to?

General Discussion / Re: DEXA scan
« on: September 17, 2012, 07:43:08 AM »
I just did a quick google search of "DEXA Scan" and learned that it is a bone density test. I am just asking...might there be some radiation risk having that many scan in succession?

I use Keto Sticks.

I can usually tell within two days after drinking if I need to reset or not. Either I wake up on day three and am tight or I do a ten day reset.

38
but I feel aweful when I drink.

I take one NOW NAC pill before, one NAC pill and one OP Nutrition B Vitamin at the end of the night, and one NAC and one B in the am. It works like a champ!

Some of my strongest Keto Sticks have been after a night of drinking, a morning of HIIT, and by the afternoon I am in the darkest range. But too much, maybe not too much, too often screws everything up for me and have to reset. For example, next week I will be in Napa for a few days and then Raiders game for the weekend with some college friends. That is too many days back to back for me. When I return, I will have to do a 10 day reset.

I agree, DH forums wouldn't be the same without Tex.

I did HIIT fasted this am and then supplemented with 5 grams of leucine, plus half a serving of OP Nutrition's BCCA, and half a serving of OP Nutrition's Amino Energy. So I got about 7 grams of leucine with some caffeine and a gram or two of carbs without barfing. I did not add whey. And did so based on the comment below from Kiefer. Should I have included whey as well? It seems like no carbs for sure.

"No, I'm not if you're on a low-carb plan or phase of one like CN and CBL. What I'm saying is that nutrient regulators of the mTOR pathway are very important even after HIIT. Those are Leucine and glucose. If you're low-carb, then use only the leucine." See http://dangerouslyhardcore.com/forum/index.php?topic=3382.msg36664#msg36664.

I saw this and seem to suggest that fish oil is not as magical as once thought with respect to cardio vascular health. Does that affect why we take fish oil here?

And I guess the other lingering question, is do we do HIIT an hour before lifting as instructed in the Flex article or fasted as you all and I have been doing?

If you want to keep muscle breakdown to a minimum, post HIIT eat something or take a whey/leucine shake like Kiefer says here:

http://dangerouslyhardcore.com/forum/index.php?topic=3382.msg36664#msg36664

This is the other post that precipitated this string. I bounce back and forth between CNS and CBL so I think I qualify as ULC. Is Kiefer saying post HIIT consume whey and leucine? If so, aren't we spiking our insulin in the ULC part of the day? I trust Kiefer and if he says to do that, I am going to try it. But spiking insulin in the ULC part of the day, does seem counter to past instruction. Thus, in an attempt to not screw this up, how much whey and leucine should we be taking post HIIT?

Is it ok to do HIIT on Lifting days, about 3 times per week, during the fasting part of the day? I do not take post training nutrition after HIIT. I wait until I have my ULC meal (1st meal) a couple hours later. My HIIT consists of 20-30 second sprints with 10-15 seconds of rest done 12-16 times.

Thanks for the help

In the Flex article, Kiefer is advocating HIIT on lifting days one hour before lifting, which is what precipitated this string.

30 min after waking cortisol, a hormone that breaks down tissues, is at it's highest point for the rest of the day. I'm just guessing that this is a pretty good time to schedule your HIIT :)

If you want to prevent catabolism (the breaking down of fat and muscle) after HIIT spike your insulin. My primary aim is fatloss, but I'm not willing to knowingly sacrifice muscle mass so I have a standard no carb post workout shake after HIIT.

I do not want to break down muscle, but I do want to break down fat. Suggestions?

What does your no carb post workout shake consist of?
